Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow on track to become

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow could become the highest-paid player in NFL history. Burrow, the 2020 Heisman Trophy winner and LSU graduate, has become one of the top quarterbacks in the league. After missing his rookie season due to injury, he returned in 2021 to lead the Bengals to Super Bowl LVI, where they narrowly lost to the Los Angeles Rams by a score of 23-20.

In addition, Burrow is the only quarterback with a winning record against two-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes, defeating him in 3 out of the 4 times they have faced each other. As a result, the Bengals are already negotiating a lucrative contract that could make him the highest-paid player in history.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler commented on this in SportsCenter: “The Bengals have started the process of signing Joe Burrow. They have initiated that negotiation process with Burrow and his agents. Now, for such a complex agreement, there will be many ups and downs. Probably many counterproposals, but at least the ball is rolling, and I have been told that the Bengals’ plan is clear.”

He added: “They want to lock up Joe Burrow so they can also focus on the core. Tee Higgins is a receiver they consider elite and would like to sign to an extension. Linebacker Logan Wilson as well. So, a very busy and expensive summer for the Cincinnati Bengals.”

Joe could earn $52 million per season

According to Fowler, if Burrow follows the trend of recent quarterback deals, the 26-year-old player could be earning over $52 million per season, which is more than what Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson would have sought.

Of course, the difference is that Burrow has participated in seven playoff games, winning five of them. His only two losses were by a field goal difference, so Cincinnati is just a few pieces away from challenging the Chiefs as the most dominant team in the AFC.
