As a new parent, one of the first decisions to make is choosing the perfect name for that perfect bundle of joy.
In some families, new parents stick with legacy names and in some cultures new parents choose biblical ones. At times parents will name their baby after an iconic historical figure or their favorite celebrity — I know a few Michaels and Mariah’s.
But just like the seasons those cute, trendy baby names come and go. And in New Jersey that trend seems to be changing, slightly.
The Social Security Administration released the top 100 most popular baby names by state, and the Garden State has a new top female name.
For the girls Emma is new number one, besting Olivia from last year. It’s a return to the top for Emma, which was last the top name in New Jersey in 2019. Luna broke into the top 10 (#9) this year for female names and Leah fell out of the top 10.
For the boys, Liam maintained the title of number one male name it has held since 2015. Jack broke into the top 10 (#10) for boys this year and Benjamin fell out of the top 10.
