First-round recap, schedule update for

Seven of the 13 Press-Telegram area baseball teams that reached the CIF Southern Section baseball playoffs advanced to the second round.

Millikan, La Mirada, Long Beach Poly will play home games.

Gahr, St. Anthony, Norwalk and Mayfair will travel outside Los Angeles Country for road games.

Division 1

Millikan will host No. 2 seed Santa Margarita in the second round on Tuesday, May 9. The Rams beat Maranatha 3-2 in the first round behind a complete-game performance by senior pitcher Austin Paul, who had three strikeouts and gave up five hits, one earned run and a walk. Senior outfielder Cameron Hegamin went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.

La Mirada will host Torrance in the second round Tuesday. The Matadores beat Ayala 4-3 in the first round as senior pitcher Eric Jeon picked up the win and junior pitcher Walker Calvo got the save. Jeon also went 1 for 2 at the plate with an RBI.

Division 2

Gahr will play at Fullerton in the second round Tuesday. The Gladiators beat Newport Harbor 6-2 in the first round s senior pitcher Jaden Alba picked up the win with five strikeouts over six innings.

Division 3

Long Beach Poly will host Flintridge Prep at Long Beach City College on Tuesday. The Jackrabbits beat Beckman 7-6 in the first round with a walk-off, inside-the-park home run by junior catcher Max Pemberton.

Division 5

St. Anthony will play at JW North of Riverside in the second round Tuesday. The Saints blew out Schurr 20-3 in the first round.

Division 6

Norwalk will play at Carpinteria in the second round Tuesday. The Lancers beat Arroyo 9-3 in the first round.

Mayfair will play at Garey in the second round Tuesday. The Monsoons beat Gabrielino 2-1 in the first round.
