‘Sensible and progressive’: Former submarine

Retired Navy Commodore and ‘Running Deep’ author Peter Scott has welcomed the AUKUS nuclear submarine agreement, saying it meets the “strategic need”.

“Perhaps I’ve been stunned before, there’s been no shortage of announcements on submarine capability over the last 20 years – they haven’t actually turned into new submarines for the navy,” Commodore Scott told Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell.

“It’s one of the reasons why I do have a great deal of confidence in the AUKUS announcement.

“It’s clear, it’s sensible, it’s progressive, it meets the strategic need but it does it with the right urgency – so that’s area where I can see action coming in and hitting the ground pretty well.”
