DeGrom, 34, signed a five-year, $185 million contract with the Rangers this offseason. The two-time Cy Young Award winner had been with the New York Mets since his MLB debut in 2014.
General manager Billy Eppler and owner Steve Cohen spent the offseason looking towards the future and have added to the starting rotation to fill the hole left by deGrom. New faces include Justin Verlander (two years, $86.7 million), Jose Quintana (two years, $26 million) and Kodai Senga (five years, $75 million).
Mets pitchers and catchers also report to camp on Wednesday in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
DeGrom is set to be the Rangers’ No. 1 guy and Texas will open up the season at home against the Philadelphia Phillies on March 30.
