The Green Bay Packers are waiting for Aaron Rodgers to decide if he wants to play or not in 2023.
Aaron Rodgers is about to become Captain Darkness.
Rodgers was set to begin a four-day, four night darkness retreat on Monday in which he’ll be alone in complete silence. During that time, he plans to contemplate his football future.
“I’ve got a pretty cool opportunity to do a little self-reflection in some isolation,” Rodgers said on the Pat McAfee Show last week. “And then after that I feel like I’ll be a lot closer to a final, final decision.”
Most expect Rodgers — who is set to earn $59.5 in 2023 — to play next season. It appears the folks in Las Vegas are among those, as well.
Even though Green Bay went 8-9 and missed the playoffs in 2022, the Packers are tied for the 10th-best odds to win the 2023 Super Bowl according to Caesars Sportsbook.
Kansas City, which defeated Philadelphia in the 57th Super Bowl Sunday, has the best odds at +550. That means a $10 bet will pay $55.
Green Bay’s odds are +3500, which means a $10 bet would pay $350. The only NFC teams with better Super Bowl odds than the Packers are San Francisco (+600), Philadelphia (+800), Dallas (+1600) and Detroit (+3000).
NFL.com reported Sunday that the Packers are “open” to trading Rodgers if he emerges from his darkness retreat and asks to play elsewhere in 2023.
If Rodgers and the Packers determine it’s best for him to be in a different uniform next season, there will be a lengthy list of suitors led by the New York Jets, Las Vegas and Tennessee. With or without Rodgers, though, the folks at Caesars see the Packers as a legitimate Super Bowl threat next year.
